DREAMERS ON AN AFRICAN ROCKET
There’s a rocket being filled with dreamers in Cameroon.
Dreamers on an African Rocket is an intimate, counter-narrative exploration of the human right to wonder. The project’s deep-rooted origin is intensely personal, born from a memory nearly thirty years ago. As a child, my cousin boldly declared his dream to become Cameroon’s first-ever astronaut. Instead of encouragement, he was met with systemic ridicule, mocked for harboring an aspiration that a biased, eurocentric world deemed impossible for a child born outside the global centers of industrial power.
Three decades later, the paradigm is fracturing. As Cameroon officially announces its state-level entry and interest in space exploration moving into this new decade, this project stands at a historic temporal crossroads. It honors my cousin’s childhood grief by documenting, with deep respect, a new generation of Cameroonian visionaries who refuse to keep their eyes on the ground. This project is a visual reclamation of our future, proving that space exploration is an ancestral and contemporary human right, not a Western monopoly.
